Vilya Enamel Pin

Vilya, also known as the Ring of Sapphire, the Ring of Air or simply the Blue Ring, was one of the Rings of Power made by the Elves. It was considered to be one in a set created by Celebrimbor—along with Narya and Nenya.

It was made out of gold and set with an enormous sapphire, some believed Vilya to be the mightiest of all Rings.

Though Tolkien does not say exactly what powers the ring Vilya gave its bearer, we may infer that it possessed the power to heal and preserve.

There is speculation that the ring might have been able to control certain elements—consider, for example, when Elrond summoned a torrent of water as Nazgûl attempted to cross Bruinen.

Given Galadriel’s use of her ring to exert power over Lothlórien, it would seem likely that Elrond used Vilya for the same purpose in Rivendell.
