The Doors of Durin were built by Narvi the Dwarf and inscribed by Celebrimbor of Eregion. Visible only in starlight or moonlight, inlaid with ithildin, they marked the western entrance to Khazad-dum. The design on this pin is based directly on Tolkien’s own drawing from the first edition of the book. Look closely at the arch above the door. The inscription is readable. It is written in Tengwar, in Sindarin mode, and it says: Pedo mellon a minno. Speak, friend, and enter.
