Ennyn Durin Aran Moria. Pedo Mellon a Minno. Im Narvi hain echant. Celebrimbor o Eregion teithant i thiw hin.
The Doors of Durin, Lord of Moria. Speak, friend, and enter. I, Narvi, made them. Celebrimbor of Hollin drew these signs.
Doors of Durin (or the West Gate) were built to protect the entrance to Khazad-dûm (Moria), the Dwarf kingdom that was later overtaken by goblins. The doors were notable for being inlaid with ithildin, which only reflected starlight or moonlight.
The design is heavily based on the original drawing by J.R.R. Tolkien from the first edition of the book. I tried to keep most of the elements. I’ve even managed to put a clearly readable inscription over the door! Well, at least part of it 🙂 It’s written in Tengwar, in Sindarin mode and says “Pedo mellon a minno”, which is the famous “Speak, friend, and enter”.
